E Bike Positive Moves to Formal Trust Mark with New Retailer Commitment

Posted on in Business News , Cycles News

E‑Bike Positive has entered a new phase with the launch of its updated Retailer Commitment, marking a transition from an awareness campaign into a formal, industry-backed trust mark scheme.

The new framework replaces the original E‑Bike Positive pledge, which was adopted by more than 400 retailers across the UK. All participating retailers are now required to reconfirm their commitment under the updated structure.

Led jointly by the Association of Cycle Traders (ACT) and the Bicycle Association (BA), the initiative aims to provide a clear and trusted signal to consumers at a time of growing scrutiny around e‑bike safety.

The updated commitment introduces a more structured set of criteria, aligning retailers with recognised best practice in the sale and servicing of road‑legal e‑bikes. Retailers who sign the new commitment will be included in a national directory and supported with updated consumer-facing materials.

The scheme continues to work in parallel with participating brands and suppliers, which can be recognised as E‑Bike Positive through independent audit of their safety, testing and compliance processes.

This combined approach — aligning responsible retailers with safety-assured brands — is designed to strengthen confidence across the market and provide reassurance to consumers, policymakers and the media.

While the scheme applies specifically to complete EAPCs, it also reflects the role retailers play in helping customers understand the safe and legal use of wider e‑mobility products.

The move comes in response to increased public and media attention on e‑bike safety, often driven by incidents involving illegal or non-compliant products. The E‑Bike Positive framework is intended to help clearly differentiate professional, standards-led retailers from those operating outside best practice.

Retailers who previously signed the E‑Bike Positive pledge need to transition to the new commitment.
