ACT Director Jonathan Harrison Featured on Latest BikeBiz Podcast Discussing E-Bike Positive Initiative

The Association of Cycle Traders (ACT) Director Jonathan Harrison has appeared on the latest episode of The BikeBiz Podcast, joining industry leaders to discuss the growing importance of protecting consumer trust in the e-bike market.

E-Bike Positive BikeBiz podcast

Episode five of the podcast, titled The E-Bike Existential Crisis: Frankenstein Bikes vs. The UK Trade, focuses on the rise of illegal and modified “Frankenstein” e-bikes and the wider impact these vehicles are having on public perception, retailer confidence, and the future of legitimate e-bike growth across the UK cycle industry.

Hosted by Pedro Couto Lopes, the discussion brings together leading voices from across retail, distribution, and policy to examine how the industry is responding through education, regulation, and the newly launched E-Bike Positive Trustmark initiative.

Jonathan Harrison represented the independent retail sector and highlighted the vital role independent bicycle dealers (IBDs) play in helping consumers understand the differences between legal, compliant e-bikes and illegally modified machines.

Also on the panel were:

  • Scott Longstaff, Brand Director at Madison and Sportline, representing the brand and distribution landscape
  • Peter Eland, Technical and Policy Director at the Bicycle Association (BA), leading on public affairs, policy, and government safety discussions

Throughout the episode, the panel explored the challenges facing the industry, including misleading media narratives, enforcement concerns, and the need for clearer public understanding around legal e-bikes and safe usage.

The E-Bike Positive Trust Mark was also discussed in detail, outlining how the industry is working collaboratively to reinforce consumer confidence and support responsible retail standards across the sector.
