Bira provides update on £1 billion claim against Amazon

Posted on in Business News , Cycles News

We recently reported that a £1 billion damages claim had been filed against Amazon on behalf of retailers selling on Amazon’s UK marketplace for illegally misusing their data and manipulating the Amazon Buy Box to benefit its own commercial operation and its overall revenues and profit.

The claim, the biggest collective action ever launched by UK retailers, was brought by ACT parent company Bira (British Independent Retailers’ Association) on behalf of retailers at the Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT) in London.

Now Bira has provided an update.

Andrew Goodacre, CEO of Bira said: I just wanted to update you on the class action claim against Amazon. It was announced early June, and it has all gone a little quiet. In reality, that is the way these types of claims work as the courts decide on the merits of the claim. We have however passed the first hurdle and been allowed to file the claims with Amazon head offices. You may also have heard that there is a second class action against Amazon that has been announced. There are similarities with our claim, but the problem is that this may well delay progress of our claim. We will keep you posted.

More importantly, if you want to be part of our claim against Amazon, please visit the website we have developed and register your interests. It can be found here: amazonukmerchantsclaim.co.uk
