London Loves Cycling, Charity video tells mayoral candidates.

Posted on in Business News , Cycles News

A new video from the London Cycling Campaign (LCC) launched ahead of the mayoral election on May 2 urges followers to “make sure London’s next Mayor knows just how much we all love cycling.”

London Loves Cycling

The charity, it has been suggested, is taking aim at Susan Hall, the Conservative Party candidate, who promised to rip out the ULEZ low-emissions zone on her first day in office and has threatened to remove cycleways.

The LCC video features cyclists of all shapes, colours, creeds, ages and sexes to promote the message that cycling is inclusive, life-affirming and popular.

“When you travel around this great big city, we all call home, remember, we are London,” starts the first cyclist featured in the video.

A woman on a cargo bike carrying a child says: “London loves beating the school run!”

Another cyclist rides on the protected Embankment cycleway outside the Houses of Parliament in Westminster and says: “London loves getting something special.”

“In this vibrant city of ours, we’re loving cycling more and more,” says another cyclist, adding, “with over one million cycle journeys made in London every day, every one of them changes us— and our city—for the better.”

The video ends with a call to action: “London elects its next Mayor on the 2 May. So head to londonlovescycling.org to let the candidates know just how much we all love cycling.”

Cycling in London is now “mainstream,” says LCC, with 1.26 million weekday journeys by bicycle, which is about a third of Tube journeys.
