Fraud alert! Protect your business

Posted on in Cycles News

Cifas UK, the UK's largest fraud prevention organisation has informed us about a fraud trend that could impact your business.

Fraudsters are attempting to pay for goods using a debit card, as they enter the PIN into the card machine it causes an alert that asks the sales assistant to call for authorisation. Fraudsters are telling the sales assistant that this has happened before and are offering to call for authorisation. The fraudster then pretends to call the number and gives the sales assistant a number. When the sales assistant enters this number into the card machine it will appear to authorise the transaction, this is because any number entered into the machine will appear to authorise the transaction.
The fraudster can then leave the store with the goods, receipt and warranty, without paying for them.

What to do if you have a suspicion?

If you are suspicious at any time throughout or after the purchase, please contact Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or actionfraud.police.uk to report the fraud
