Dorset bike business for sale

Posted on in Business News , Cycles News

A unique, traditional bicycle business in a historic town in the beautiful county of Dorset is for sale.

There has been a bicycle business in the same location for almost 50 years and it is well established in the local community.

The premises are leased at a favourable rent and have belonged to the same estate for centuries. The total internal area is over 380m2 which can be expanded.

  • Significant remedial work including new roofs has been completed recently by the landlord so the property is in good order and has a good lease period which can be renegotiated when due. The shop and workshop have been sympathetically improved to make them more comfortable and efficient and improve stock displays.
  • The heritage buildings and courtyard have great charm and character and potential for expanding the retail area or developing diversified business areas.
  • The courtyard setting is perfect for test riding bikes safely, outdoor display of bikes and working on repairs in the sun is possible when the weather is fine. There is vehicle access, parking and potential for renting living accommodation adjacent to the business.
The shop sells new bikes, e-bikes & used bikes - including vintage, plus P&A and clothing, and also provides workshop and hire services.
  • There is a varied, loyal and growing customer base and knowledgeable, professional staff.
  • Trade accounts with several major suppliers are in place.
  • The shop is the only commercial bicycle business in the town.
  • A strong brand has been created by word of mouth recommendations supported by a web site, cycle club and social media.
  • A reputation as an e-bike specialist has been built up with a strong supporting relationship with suppliers.

Turnover has tripled in the last 3 years under the current owner to over £120k p.a. There is great potential for continued growth and improved profit in the short term without major investment because: 1. overheads are low and will reduce further when new business rates come into effect. 2. Profit has already been been reinvested in improvements and stock 3. Income from sub-letting can be increased 4. A more tax efficient business structure is possible. 5. Marketing opportunities have not been fully exploited.

The business would be a good fit for a family run operation or partnership and can provide a great lifestyle for the right owners. It is also a secure prospect for another bicycle business looking to expand and an excellent manager/mechanic is available if required.
The business is for sale at a competitive price, with assets and stock at an agreed valuation, because of health problems and early retirement.
