A journey from quad bike accident to triumphant climb up Snowdon, via an e-bike

Posted on in Cycles News by Voltâ„¢

A few years ago Charlotte Florence’s dream trip to Costa Rica quickly turned into a nightmare after a quad bike crash, leaving her paralysed face down in the jungle. Charlotte fell from the road's edge down a sheer drop and her quad bike tumbled straight down after her, shattering her spine. She suffered an L2 incomplete spinal cord injury with a bleak prognosis – doctors told her she would never walk again.

Charlotte VOLT E-Bike

However Charlotte wasn’t one to accept such a fate and has since defied doctor’s predictions. Two years later with unwavering determination she’s back on her feet and in fact, has recently successfully climbed Snowdon! Supported by the Millimetres 2 Mountains foundation, Charlotte’s physical recovery has been further aided by using a VOLT e-bike. With Charlotte unable to push off and begin cycling by herself, the bike’s motorised assistance was vital to her recovery.

Charlotte’s story highlights how human determination empowered by technology can make the impossible possible and deliver life-changing results, and also shows the benefits of e-bikes.
