ACT member teams up with Swytch to offer conversion of pedal bikes into EV bicycles

Posted on in Business News , Cycles News

A Norwich cycle shop is offering commuters the chance to turn their regular pedal bikes into high tech e-bikes.

Bicycle Links

ACT member Bicycle Links has teamed up with Swytch to bring the  combination of pedal power and EV bicycles to Norwich. The company also claims it can do so in less than 30 minutes.

Corrinne, of Bicycle Links, said the business was contacted by the Colton-based technology company and partnered up in March last year.

"They were looking to partner with local bike shops and offered us the opportunity to stock their electric bike conversion kits" she said.

"Our main aim is always to sell purpose-built electric bikes, but these aren't affordable for everyone.

"We believe cycling should be affordable and the Swytch kit means people can convert the bike they already own.

"The kit comes with a new front wheel which contains the motor. t also includes the battery mount, a display unit and the pedal sensor.  The pedal sensor is connected to the left-side crank - which attaches the pedal to the bicycle - so when you pedal, the motor kicks in. They're very easy to fit, within 30 minutes like we say, so we've even had some customers fit them at home, but we also offer fitting. The kit doesn't fundamentally change the bicycle either so if a customer wants to remove the Swytch kit they can."

The attachment will cost cyclists  £100.

Corrinne added: "We've sold about 10 kits, fitting around six, but the summer sale has been very popular, and we have more kits on the way."
