UK E-bike imports see modest increase in units but larger increase in value

UK e-bike imports between the period of January and December 2017 and the same period 2018 have seen a year on year unit growth of 1.8%.

Although the number of e-bike unit imports hasn't grown significantly, the value of those e-bikes has. The total value of e-bikes that have entered the UK has increased from £37.7 million in 2017 to £41.4 million in 2018. This is a value increase of 9.5%.

Market swing to e-bike imports from the EU

2018 also saw a swing in markets with an increase in e-bikes imported from the EU and a decline in imports for Asia. The value share of e-bikes coming in from the EU increased from 44% to 51% with a unit share increase of 46%.

E-bike imports from Asian countries have gone down respectively between 2017 and 2018. This reduction in import levels from Asian countries is likely due to the anti-dumping legislation uncertainty.
