IBDs encouraged to come together on October 6th for Local Bike Shop Day

Posted on in Business News , Cycles News

IBDs are encouraged to come together on October 6th to celebrate ‘Local Bike Shop Day' showing customers the benefits of shopping locally.

Inspired by the success of Record Store Day, Daniel Jones from Random Adventure proposed the idea of creating Local Bike Shop Day on the CyclingIndustry.news Facebook group and has since created a stand-alone ‘Local Bike Shop Day' group where IBDs are invited to join the conversation.

With support from retailers, suppliers, the ACT and trade and consumer press, Jones is keen to get the idea off the ground and give the industry a chance to come together on one day and "show the customers why they should shop with them over the big online retailers".

Jones owns Random Adventure, which specialises in putting on talks and events alongside local bike businesses. Talking about why he suggested the idea of Local Bike Shop Day, Jones said "I put on talks around Lancashire and partner with bike shops when doing so. I'm also a passionate cyclist, I love supporting my local shop and also as an inept mechanic, I really do rely on my shops to keep my bikes spinning. I want to keep my local bike shops running, I'm not expecting anything from this."

The idea for the day is just to celebrate what makes IBDs special. Speaking about how bike shops can get involved Jones says "There's no universal answer for this, already with a few stores I've spoken to I've been given different answers; demo days, talks, workshops, bespoke bike fit demonstrations, films, BBQ and beer. This is your store and you'll know it best as to how you can best showcase this."

IBDs are encouraged to join the discussion over on the Facebook page to share ideas and spread the word.
