Cytech is the internationally recognised training and accreditation scheme for bicycle technicians and they have teamed up with Myagi, the bike industry's free online training platform, to search for the UK's most knowledgeable bike mechanic or sales advisor. The purpose of this partnership? To further extend our training knowledge, showcasing the most up to date training techniques... And to highlight the level of awesome talent in the UK bike industry.

Cytech is owned by the UK cycle industry via the Association of Cycle Traders (ACT), with over 8,000 technical courses having been delivered to over 3,500 candidates to date. Training is at the heart of Cytech, and the Cytech Challenge is designed to highlight the importance of training staff in store. With increased competition from online and corporate retailers, both Cytech and Myagi believe that the staff in IBDs are the industry's most valuable asset and so investing in your staff offers the best way to increase sales and improve face to face customer service. It's also been proven that offering good training incentives helps retain staff for longer (PWC 2011), which is a win win all round.

Jonathan Harrison, Marketing Director for ACT has driven the training strategy with determination and incentives such as the Cytech Challenge are an important part of reaching out to technicians so they know what is available to them: "Development in the bike industry is exciting, fast paced and technical. The importance of having professional bike technicians with all the right product knowledge at their finger tips is crucial to business success. The ACT has always supported the development of individuals in the cycle trade and we clearly see the value of online learning platforms, such as Myagi, to help raise the standard of retail staff."

The ACT already adopt online learning with the established Cytech theory one course , and have recently backed a campaign to get every staff member employed in the cycle trade Cytech qualified. No matter what position a member of staff holds in your business, possessing the skills learnt in Cytech's online course will give your employees a strong foundation to build their career on. The ACT are offering all of their members one free Cytech theory one course to get started- find out more at iceBike*.

Business Development Manager for Myagi, Richard Smith, is excited to be working with Cytech and raising awareness of the importance of training in your store: "We are delighted to be working with Cytech to build awareness of the importance of training within the cycle industry. Customers are doing more and more research themselves before entering the store and bikes and accessories are becoming more technical and changing more frequently. This puts a huge pressure on bike shop staff to have the knowledge they need to meet customers' needs on the shop floor or in the workshop. Therefore, it's essential that sales advisors and workshop mechanics not only have the right knowledge but also the confidence and skill to know how and when to use it."

Cytech and Myagi invite all those in the bike industry to sign up for free at myagi.com/signup/cytech/
and take the Cytech mechanic quiz. It's completely free to enter and you could win an awesome bag of swag donated by Zyro.

The winner will be announced on the Cytech website on 24th March 2016.
