Summer Series Part 2

ACT servicesThe ACT is its membership and if you are one of the 4000 businesses that subscribe to the ACT then rest assured that you are now part of a 100,000+ community of Independent Retailers working together for the future of specialist retailers the IRC, the leading advocate of Indie Retail in the UK.

Cycling has benefited over the past 18 months, but UK retail is increasingly challenged to adapt to a changing high street and consumer purchasing habits. The ACT's no.1 focus remains consumer engagement and sales. Through continual innovation and partnership we provide business support and skills to help develop the UK's cycling community. We all have an exciting 6 months ahead.

The IBD and the Independent Retailers Confederation

Part 2 of the summer series looks at how the ACT works closely with the Independent Retailers Confederation (IRC) to become even more influential in meeting the needs of independent retail.

The IRC consists of like-minded trade associations with interests in the small and independent retail sector.

Representing 100,000+ independent retailers throughout the UK, the IRC holds unrivalled access and significant influence over many government proposals and works hard to guide initiatives to the benefit of members.

The IRC meets together fortnightly, and with Paul Scully MP, Business Minister, quarterly, to discuss and co-ordinate action on issues impacting independent retailers and the future of the high street.

What the IRC brings the IBD:

  • Unrivalled access to Government on business matters impacting speciality retail
  • Extensive and ever increasing engagement opportunities with the public/new customers
  • A width of knowledge and experience in delivering business support across multiple sectors, high streets and shopping parades throughout the UK
  • Increased buying power and influence with commercial, Government and national agencies
  • Information, advice and best practice standards for Indie Retail
  • IRC meets every fortnight to discuss and co-ordinate action on issues impacting Indie Retail
  • The opportunity to rebuild the high street together for the future
  • Organises the Government recognised Best Small Shops competition that celebrates the entrepreneurial spirit of independent retailers

Other members of the IRC include The Association of Convenience Stores, The Booksellers Association, Bira and many more.
