Job Description

About us

Established in 2007, Drover Cycles is a bike shop and cycle hire centre located in Hay on Wye on the edge of the beautiful Brecon Beacons. We are passionate about all things cycling - a 20,000km expedition across Africa kick-started our journey in the bike industry - and we cater for all kinds of cyclists and their bikes. Covid 19 has brought home to us the fact that bike shops really are “essential services” and we are proud to serve our local community and to do in a socially and environmentally responsible way. If this sounds like the kind of place you’d like to spend your days, please read on.

The job

We are looking for a full-time Assistant Shop Manager to take charge of our thriving, independent bike shop in Hay on Wye. You will be the first point of contact for customers, both in person and by phone/online, and will be responsible for meeting and exceeding their expectations. We want the shop to be your pride and joy, well stocked, laid out and a great place to be. This is an assistant role, you will be working with and supported by the existing team, but there is the potential to quickly progress to become the Shop Manager.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Responding to customer enquiries in a helpful and efficient manner;

  • Selling bikes, parts, accessories and services on the shop floor;

  • Taking in bikes for repair;

  • Dealing with product queries, returns and warranty issues;

  • Handling customer complaints and feedback;

  • Meeting with brand / supplier reps;

  • Managing stock and placing orders;

  • Creating and maintaining an organised and attractive retail environment;

  • Running in-house product training sessions for staff;

  • Organising special promotions, displays and demo days.

This is a full-time role 8.45am-5.45pm or 10.15am-7.15pm 5 days/week inc some weekends. Job share will be considered.

Skills/Experience Required

Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience in a retail environment, ideally a bike shop;

  • A passion for cycling;

  • Good organisational skills;

  • The ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a wide range of people;

  • Good numeracy skills;

  • Familiarity with computers and a good level of IT literacy.

We would like to stress that, while skills and experience are important, we would encourage you to apply if you have a passion for the job, even if you think you don’t tick all the boxes. If you have a good work ethic, bags of commitment and a willingness to learn we would like to hear from you.

At Drover Cycles we recognise and value diversity and believe the business benefits as a result of the range of experience, outlook and talents within our team.  We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all.  We are committed to offering flexible working options where this is possible and appropriate.
