Why ACT membership supports E Bike Positive
- Accountable governance
E‑Bike Positive requires an accountable organisation to manage retailer standards, participation requirements, retailer records, complaints, point-of-sale materials, mystery shopping once introduced, and the ongoing integrity of the trust mark
- Infrastructure and long-term delivery
ACT membership helps fund the staff, systems, expertise and administration needed to operate, monitor, maintain and develop the retailer side of E‑Bike Positive. Without this existing infrastructure, a separate organisation and funding model would need to be created
- Clear and sustainable funding
Income generated specifically through E‑Bike Positive is reinvested directly into the scheme. The scheme draws on the staff, resources and infrastructure provided by ACT, which are funded through membership. It is therefore fair and equitable that participating businesses contribute towards the overall cost of delivering and sustaining the scheme
- An ongoing relationship with retailers
E‑Bike Positive involves continuing commitments, not simply a one-off sign-up. ACT membership provides an established relationship through which retailers can be supported, kept informed and held accountable to the requirements of the scheme
- Credibility and industry backing
E‑Bike Positive is jointly managed by ACT and the Bicycle Association, bringing together the retailer and supplier sides of the industry. This gives the trust mark recognised governance, industry expertise and long-term accountability
- Promoting, sustaining and delivering the scheme
E‑Bike Positive will only achieve its objectives if consumers and key stakeholders recognise and trust it. ACT membership helps support the ongoing PR, public affairs, media engagement and work with MPs, government, regulators and insurers needed to build the scheme’s profile and influence.
Linking participation to ACT membership helps ensure that the trust mark is properly governed, responsibly managed and financially sustainable.
Priced at £240 annually when paid by Direct Debit, ACT Gold membership provides value beyond participation in E‑Bike Positive. This includes industry representation and specialist business support, preferential rates on services such as Cytech training and Bikmo insurance and access to advice and member services designed to reduce the costs and administrative burden faced by cycle businesses.
We recognise the importance of keeping participation affordable, proportionate and accessible, particularly for the smallest businesses where every cost matters. At the same time, the scheme must be sufficiently robust and sustainable to help consumers distinguish safe, road-legal e-bikes from the unsafe and illegal products damaging confidence in the whole sector.
By working together, we have an opportunity to safeguard the legitimate e-bike industry, strengthen consumer confidence and help shape a positive future for e-bikes.
We welcome constructive discussion about whether the current model is the best way to achieve these objectives while protecting the credibility and long-term future of E‑Bike Positive. Our aim is to ensure that participation provides genuine value for businesses of every size and delivers meaningful change across the sector.
