Disclaimer

The information below summarises the relevant regulations for electric bikes as far as we (The ACT) understand at the time of writing. We believe that the below is an accurate interpretation of what the law states, however we cannot accept liability for any information that is incorrect or has since become out of date. We also cannot police any retailers who conduct any illegal activity either through choice or through ignorance of the law.

Waste E-bike Battery Disposal

In the UK batteries need to be disposed of correctly to help protect the environment.

Guidance on this and information around the regulations involved (i.e. 'The Waste Batteries and Accumulators Regulations 2009’) can be found on the Government website here: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/regulations-batteries-and-waste-batteries

More guidance on your responsibility as a retailer can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/battery-waste-supplier-reponsibilities

The regulations are constantly being reviewed and so other requirements may be necessary in the future depending on your business. For example see this news article here about 'e-waste' in the UK: https://www.chargedretail.co.uk/2021/02/26/amazon-could-soon-be-forced-to-collect-your-old-phones-and-laptops-for-free/

We are constantly keeping an eye on the regulations applicable to our members and we endeavour to keep these pages as up to date as possible.
