Crime Report 2019

The Crime Report 2019 brought together responses from 7,000 stores.
These responses will be used to communicate the Association of Convenience Stores' (ACS) policy recommendations to government.
The report is a snapshot of the crime in the retail sector discussing the financial costs, the impacts on the retailers and the investments retailers are putting towards crime prevention.
Key findings from this years' report are:
- Crime cost the sector £246m in the last year, equivalent to a 7p crime tax per transaction
- There were almost 10,000 incidents of violence, with 41% resulting in injury and 83% of staff experiencing verbal abuse
- 79% of shop thieves are believed to be repeat offenders

The ACS along with the Home Office has launched a new campaign encouraging retailers to #AlwaysReportAbuse and to educate the public on the severity of the issue.
