Help prevent mandatory e-bike insurance

Posted on in Business News , Cycles News

ebike

Your chance to help stop potential damage on the growth of the e-bike market.

The EU Motor Insurance Directive states that all motor vehicles must be insured, this currently includes cars, motorbikes and other vehicles.

This directive could be extended to include e-bikes so they will have to have third party insurance like that of cars and motorbikes resulting in obvious barriers for any new people to ride e-bikes and a laborious process of implementation and policing.

However, a vote is to be held on the 22nd of January to decide the outcome.

An amendment excluding e-bikes is expected to be supported, with CONEBI and ECF looking to the industry to lobby national MEPs as insurance for this amendment to go through. Adding your company's voice into the matter will go a long way to support the already growing e-bike market.

If you want to respond to this matter, you can write to the relevant MEP's to get your voice heard.

Bike Europe have created a useful template you can use and you can download a list of UK MEPs here. You are more than welcome to amend the letter in any way.

You'll need to send this letter before the 22nd January.
