The Bikeability Trust has launched CycleIn, a new e-learning programme designed to help adults build their cycling skills and confidence on the road.
Launched in September 2026 with backing from Forest Bikes, the course costs £7.99 and includes online modules that can be completed in around 1.5 hours.
CycleIn is separate from the government-funded Bikeability programme and has been developed by cycling training experts with more than 18 years’ experience delivering in-person training.
The course draws on the Highway Code and National Standard for Cycle Training, covering areas including road positioning, junctions, route planning, e-bike use and cycling alongside others in urban environments.
The Bikeability Trust says CycleIn is aimed at adults returning to cycling, commuters looking to improve their confidence, people who cycle for work and delivery drivers, as well as those who have completed in-person training and want to refresh their skills.
The modules can be accessed on a phone, tablet or laptop, allowing users to complete the training at their own pace.
Chief Executive of The Bikeability Trust Emily Cherry MBE said: “Many adults are locked out of cycling because they haven’t got road confidence. CycleIn changes that. Backed by The Bikeability Trust’s expertise, it gives people the knowledge they need to cycle on today’s roads safely.
"Cycling is one of the most affordable, healthy and sustainable ways to travel, but confidence is key. With CycleIn, we’re making that confidence accessible to everyone.”
The launch follows the recent Lost Generation report, produced by the Bikeability Trust in partnership with Forest, which found that fewer than 5% of people who cycle have received adult cycle training.
The report also found that a lack of training can lead people to limit their cycling to traffic-free routes, highlighting the role of confidence and skills in helping more adults cycle on the road.
