Consumer watchdog Which has brought together retail industry leaders in a video calling for tougher regulation of online marketplaces amid growing concerns over unsafe and non-compliant products being sold to UK consumers.

The campaign video has united voices from across retail, including CEO of ACT parent company Bira Andrew Goodacre, and Bicycle Association executive director Phillip Darnton, in a joint push for stronger consumer protections and clearer accountability for online platforms.

Commenting on the campaign, ACT director Jonathan Harrison said the video's message aligned closely with the organisation’s E-bike Positive initiative: “It’s great to see Bira chief executive Andrew Goodacre alongside industry colleague Phillip Darnton from the Bicycle Association singing from the same hymn sheet.
“Protecting consumers from dangerous and non-compliant products is essential for both rider safety and the future of the cycling industry, and updating product safety legislation for the digital age will help create a fairer marketplace, ensuring responsible UK cycle retailers and reputable brands are not undercut by sellers offering non-compliant products online.
“Through the E-bike Positive campaign, we are calling for stronger accountability across online marketplaces, because clear product safety requirements, backed by robust enforcement, are vital to preventing dangerous products from reaching consumers and building confidence in e-bike adoption.
“We urge the Department for Business and Trade and the Office for Product Safety and Standards to take decisive action to hold online marketplaces accountable for unsafe e-bikes, batteries and related products sold through their platforms.”
