The ForwardMotion Cycle Hub Thurrock (the “cycle hub”) is an exciting not-for-profit retail-based project delivering to the local community access to cycling and sustainable transport.  Operating since summer 2019, the cycle hub has provided a facility for the Thurrock community to access bicycles at a low-cost, as well as servicing, parts and equipment within Tilbury. Our aim is to bring the joy and freedom of cycling to more people as part of their everyday lives. Cycling is fun, low cost, green, and healthy and we want to give more people the chance to benefit.

The ForwardMotion Cycle Hub Thurrock is looking for a new manager to lead the team and build on the successes of the hub to date. The core duty will be to undertake all the functions of managing a retail store in the heart of the community – one which has an independent feel but backed by Thurrock Council. We’re looking for someone who has an enthusiasm to get involved in the project by helping grow the hub and promoting our aims. A background in retail management or technical knowledge in cycle maintenance are a plus, but neither are essential if you have a desire to learn, become involved, and want to help the hub flourish. The hub is funded until March 2023, but with growing revenues, we are looking for someone who will help us take the next step in securing the hub for the future.

Key responsibilities will include managing and supervising our team of staff and volunteers, and general retail management and supervisory responsibilities including the operational activities, stock and equipment management and cash handling in line with policies and procedures. A core aim of the role is to increase footfall and custom to work towards securing the ongoing future of the hub.  The manager will also support in identifying and securing potential revenue opportunities and grant funding to help further the business. Key requirements of the role include:

• Supervisory or Managerial experience in a retail environment
• Experience in managing and scheduling staff
• Suitable experience in undertaking management of cash and monies
• Good literacy and numeracy skills
• Good communications and social media skills to promote the business
• An enthusiasm for cycling and cycles.
• Cytech Level 2 or equivalent experience is desired but not critical for the right candidate
• Have a driving licence
• Working during evenings, weekends and bank holidays is essential
